Politix – The Clinton Lust for Power…
The View From the North
US politics would appear to yield a seemingly unending sea of things to snicker over. If, that is, it were a small-town high school’s election for class president, not a contest to become the President of the United States.
The latest? Well, after a very calculated pattern of below-the-belt attacks on her rivals by members of Billary’s entourage (comments quickly disowned by the Great Pant-Suited One, after the damage is done, of course), Mrs. Clinton has taken to outright fabrication. She now claims on a trip to war-torn Bosnia in 1996 her plane landed amidst sniper fire, further claiming the greeting ceremony at the airport was cut short and they had to, “run with our heads down to get into the vehicles to get to our base.” Mrs. Clinton further claimed she was sent to areas deemed too dangerous for her husband to visit.
Unfortunately (both for Billary and those people who prefer their politics sprinkled liberally with candor…), a CBS news crew was along for the trip. So was comedian Sinbad and musician Sheryl Crow. Sinbad was the first to question the assumptive Democratic Presidential Candidate’s version of events, claiming the most fear he experienced on the trip came in trying to find something to eat. He further added, in response to Hillary’s claim of being sent to areas too dangerous for husband (and President) Bill: “What kind of president would say, ‘Hey man, I can’t go because I might get shot… but I’m gonna send my wife and daughter. Oh and take a guitar player and a comedian with you.’” For an entertainer who’s always turned my stomach, he has a damn fine point there.
The CBS reporter who accompanied Mrs. Clinton on the trip, Sharyl Attkisson, noted that Mrs. Clinton was greeted at the airport by an 8 year-old who read her a poem during the greeting ceremony. There was no sniper fire. There was no running to car, head down, pant suit wrinkled while avoiding certain death. There were, however, photo ops and some singing during the 8 hour trip. A Clinton apologist claimed Mrs. Clinton “mis-spoke”.
Mr. Obama’s aides, however, point out that the comments were contained in the text of her speech, and the Obabma camp draws the (what should be obvious) distinction between “mis-speaking” and “misleading”. Mr. Obama, for his part, is himself a thick pair of glasses short of 20/20 vision when it comes to discerning reality from fantasy – see his well documented denials regarding his ties to Tony Rezko (who is currently facing federal charges of attempted extortion, money laundering and fraud). Ah US politics…ain’t it grand?
